Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a safe and non-invasive way to compliment your current healthcare program. Treatments are not condition specific so they may be helpful for any condition. Reiki is a spiritual healing practice using light touch (or with hands slightly above the body) administered to a fully clothed participant. There is strong anecdotal evidence that Reiki treatments help people feel better. There is no physical manipulation or diagnosis to receive a Reiki treatment just a willingness to give it a try. Most state that treatments help reduce stress and provide a deep sense of relaxation and wellbeing. Reiki can help reduce pain, balance anxiety and facilitate personal growth.
The benefits of multiple sessions are similar to examples of meditation or yoga practice, in that the effects of Reiki are cumulative. One session can often work wonders and repeated regular sessions can change your life in positive ways. Acute conditions tend to balance faster than chronic conditions.
Reiki practice began with the teachings of Mikao Usui in Japan in the 1920’s. The history and future of Reiki are continually being updated as more research is done.
Today Reiki is being used in many prestigious hospitals all over the world to support wellness.
The New York Times reported that Dr. Oz, a leading heart surgeon, author, and talk show host, has allowed the use of Reiki during open heart surgeries and heart transplant operations. Says Dr. Oz when recommending Pamela Miles Book "A Comprehensive Guide to Reiki": That "Reiki has become a sought-after healing art among patients and mainstream medical professionals. ....."Alternative medicines," Dr Oz says,"deal with the body's energy, something that traditional western medicine generally does not. We're beginning now to understand things that we know in our heart are true but we could never measure." "As we get better at understanding how little we know about the body, we begin to realize that the next big frontier in medicine is energy medicine. It's not the mechanistic part of the joints moving. It's not the chemistry of our body. It's the understanding for the first time how energy influences how we feel."

Reiki can be learned by everyone; many "regular people" learn Reiki for self-healing and/or helping their family, friends, pets and even plants. Yoga Instructors report feeling a deep sense of relaxation similar to the feeling of a Savasana practice. Joining these two ancient healing arts assists with loosening and freeing blocked energies and deepening the mind body connection. Students may comment that your touch is warm and comforting when assisting them in their asana practice. Nurses and Doctors report an increased sense of intuition in assisting their patients. Reiki helps with stress on the job. Massage Therapists report not feeling as depleted after giving massages. Clients report a feeling of deep relaxation and comment on their therapist's hands being warm and comforting. Counselors report combining Reiki and therapy have been very beneficial to their work.
